Jessie has been a registered Social Worker since 2006 and is passionate about supporting the well-being of children and their families. After obtained her Bachelors of Social Work from the University of Calgary, she went on to pursue her Masters of Social Work from Dalhousie University. Jessie has received training through the Canadian Association of Play Therapy, the Selective Mutism Association, and is a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. Additionally, Jessie has completed advanced training in Child-Centered Play Therapy.
Utilizing play based approaches, Jessie supports children 3-12 years of age facing various social, emotional, behavioral and learning challenges. She draws from both directive and non-directive interventions, including Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) and Cognitive-Behavioral Play Therapy (CBPT). In her work with adolescents and teen clients, Jessie draws from different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and she loves to introduce Expressive modalities such as Sandtray, journalling and art.
Jessie believes that creating a safe and understanding relationship is the most important part of the therapeutic relationship. She strives to create an environment in which each person and/or family feels free to be themselves and can experience unconditional acceptance and positive regard.
