It can be a hard choice to seek counselling for your child. At Miller Health Kids, we believe that it is never too early to start building a community of care for your child.  Through counselling, we can provide them with a safe space, a neutral person to talk about their life stressors, and a way to build a tool kit of skills to use as they navigate the challenges of growing up. Our Registered Social Workers work with children and youth aged 6-21.

Our therapists employ evidence based techniques and treatment is individualized to the specific needs of each child or youth and takes into consideration a child’s developmental stage.

This can include providing individual psychotherapeutic counselling, support for siblings, consultation for parents regarding parenting challenges and support for those who are parenting children with special needs. The therapist can work with families to improve effective communication, foster deeper connections and offer parenting techniques that are specific to the needs of their child(ren).

We provide a free phone consultation to anyone that has any questions about our counselling and psychotherapy services for children and youth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Child and Youth Counselling

Reach out if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

Counselling is a form of therapy that is specifically designed to help children and adolescents with emotional, behavioural, and mental health issues. This type of therapy is provided by a Social Worker (RSW, MSW) at Miller Health who has experience specifically with children, youth, and families.

Signs that a child may benefit from counselling include changes in behaviour, such as acting out or withdrawing, changes in mood or emotional regulation, difficulty with school or social interactions, and expressing feelings of sadness or hopelessness. If you are concerned about your child’s emotional or behavioural well-being, it is important to speak with one of our qualified counsellors for guidance.

Child and youth counselling can help children and youth develop better emotional regulation, improve their relationships with others, and increase their overall well-being. It can also help them to feel heard and understood, and can provide them with the tools they need to navigate the challenges of growing up.
