What is pelvic health physiotherapy?
So what exactly is pelvic health physiotherapy? This is where we get a little nerdy!
I’ve had a patient express that she thought it was totally normal to leak urine when coughing and sneezing after having her two little ones! She had heard of kegels but didn’t know there were many more exercises that she could do! She has since learned some corrective exercises and no longer experiences urinary stress incontinence. Talk about life changing!
Where pelvic health physiotherapy may support treatment of a wide variety of issues including pelvic organ prolapse, painful intercourse, and stress urinary incontinence just to name a few.
Can pelvic floor physiotherapy help with Endometriosis?
As part of a well rounded treatment plan, a patient with endometriosis should consider a pelvic health physiotherapist as part of their action plan!
Behaviour & lifestyle modifications are almost always the first thing discussed with patients and include eating habit modifications, physical activity habits, sleep hygiene, and mental wellness.
Your pelvic health therapist may then assess your abdomen by looking at muscle overactivity, connective tissue restriction and visceral mobility. Lastly the pelvic floor is assessed for overactive muscles, connective tissue restrictions, strength, and coordination.
Based on your assessment, your physiotherapist will give you a series of exercises and strategies to compliment your pain management plan.
Our team may even suggest a referral to another allied health practitioner depending on your assessment.
