Melanie has worked in the substance use field for approximately 10 years supporting individuals of various ages, facilitating a psycho-educational course, as well as supporting individuals through their withdrawal from various substances, and providing addictions counselling. Melanie’s non-judgemental approach has allowed her to work well with clients of all ages within these settings.
Later in her career, Melanie returned to school to complete her Honours Bachelor of Social Work as well as her Master’s degree. Since completion of her masters, Melanie has provided clinical therapy to youth in conflict with the law, with mental health diagnoses and substance related challenges. In this position, Melanie utilizes various evidence based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, adapting her approach based on the needs of the individual.
Recently, Melanie has found success and fulfillment working with adults (16+) in private settings seeking therapy for depression, anxiety, anger, stress management, and addiction. Melanie’s priority is to support and acknowledge the self-efficacy of the person she is working with, and to assist them in setting manageable goals for change.
Outside of her work, Melanie prioritizes healthy coping strategies, often through physical activity, such as, running, high intensity interval training, playing volleyball, and hiking.
